Cody’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected
In June of 2019, Cody knew something wasn’t right. The pain in his lower back had only grown worse and the lump in his right pelvis had developed into the size of a football. What he didn’t know at the time, was that over the next 12 months he would be going to war with a rare, life threatening form of primary bone cancer called chondroblastic osteosarcoma .

Over the course of his fight, Cody would spend 150 plus days in the hospital; endure a grueling 3 rounds of brutal chemo which would then be followed by an ultra-high-risk surgery to remove the deadly tumor from his pelvis.

Just weeks before the surgery, Cody would find out that in order to achieve proper surgical margin, they would have to perform an extended hemi-pelvectomy, which would ultimately result in the amputation of his right leg, right pelvis and his tumor altogether.

If you know Cody, you know he’s a fighter and that he viewed this battle with cancer as something he refused to lose. It was much more than survival. It was about being able to experience his 6 year old daughter grow up so he can walk her down the aisle. It was about growing old with his beautiful wife who endured and stood by him every step of the way. If you know Cody, you know that even on the darkest days, he always finds the positive.

On January of 2020, Cody’s unbelievably talented team at the Mayo Clinic successfully completed his life saving surgery over 4 days.

He’ll be the first to admit that he couldn’t have done it alone. The support and unconditional love from his wife and daughter along with family and friends, helped carry him through the fight.

But there is a new battle in front of Cody, one of physical and financial recovery. One that will require more chemotherapy and countless hours of physical therapy as he rebuilds his body. Adapting to a new normal filled with medication, phantom pain, prosthetics, and chronic pain.

With the astronomically high hospital bills and the cost of the complex and state of the art prosthetic leg, Cody and Rachelle have additional real concern about the financial burden that this has brought. It has kept both Cody and his wife from work for over a year and as he continues treatment and therapy. The medical bills keep coming.

It's is another burden this family should not have to bear, especially now while their focus is on Cody’s recovery and dealing with their new normal.

Which is why we are asking for your help!

Help Cody get his life back on track without the headache of hospital bills hanging over their head.
