Library Project for Honduran School
Donation protected

We currently don't have a working library for the students and are lacking quality English books. Our school is desperately in need of books that cater to second language learners. We need quality books to develop students' reading skills and expand their English vocabulary. The few books we have are outdated and falling apart. Our goal is to raise money to create a library that students can easily use and to provide each classroom with its own class library. We need donations to purchase library shelving units and books, such as class sets, dictionaries, and books appropriate for each grade level. The school is also in need of school and P.E. supplies, so any additional money will go towards purchasing these resources. If we exceed our goal, we will use the donations to help students who struggle to buy lunch and school necessities. As close to one-fifth of our students are on need-based scholarships, we would be unable to provide the school with these resources without outside funding.

The majority of the Honduran population lives below the UN set poverty line and there is a 60% unemployment rate. These startling statistics demonstrate the importance of a good education, which can allow a child to break their cycle of poverty. A Honduran who is bilingual has more job opportunities, many of which offer higher salaries, than those who cannot speak English.
