Colin and Jamie Adopt a Baby

Our names are Colin and Jamie McGlothlin, and we are in the process of adopting a baby! Due to infertility, it is unlikely for us to have a biological baby without medical help. Our adoption home study has been approved, and we are waiting on a match with a birth parent.

 

This GoFundMe is for anyone who would like to donate to our adoption fund, but are not able to make it to our Adoption Benefit Concert fundraiser on December 12th.

 

Domestic infant adoption is unfortunately extremely expensive. The average cost in the US is $40,000, but the cost can vary widely, especially depending on the state where the baby is born. In-state adoptions in Kentucky tend to be cheaper, around $20,000-30,000, but we are open to adopting from any state. The bulk of the cost is made up of legal fees, adoption agency fees, and maternity related birth mother expenses.

 

The way our adoption agency works is that we receive email listings of available birthparent cases, which include the estimated fees for that particular case. We are not able to pursue individual adoption opportunities unless we already have the estimated fees immediately available to us. If we meet all the criteria, including having the fees available, we ask the agency to show our profile book to the birth parent(s). Then, the birth parent(s) chooses which couple they would like to place their baby with.

 

In addition to the estimated adoption fees, if the baby is born in any state other than Kentucky (where we live), we would have to pay for a hotel for about two weeks, since the baby can’t cross state lines until some of the legal requirements have been met.

 

We have saved up the majority of the expenses ourselves, originally planning on using it soon to buy our first house. Once we realized we had infertility issues, we knew we would be using this money for the adoption fees instead, and will have to put buying a house on hold for now until we have saved back up again. We have a goal set to raise a minimum of $7,000 to help cover the remaining expenses, but anything we raise above and beyond that would still be helpful, since adoption fees can sometimes go even higher than $40,000.
