Support the Smiths as Colin fights the biggest battle ahead!

Hello beautiful people, my name is Brahe and I'm putting together this gofundme for my husband Colin. As some of you know Colin was a heavy diesel fitter, working fulltime as the soul income for our family. We have 5 beautiful children and only weeks away from announcing the arrival of our 6th baby!

Colin was in a serious car accident on the 21st of May 2024 when he was on his way to collect our 2 older children from football training, Colin never made it to collect our children as he was rear ended by a driver who had fell asleep behind the wheel. The significance of the impact from the at fault driver caused his vehicle to be wedged under Colins tray of his Ford Ranger, dragging both vehicles 10 metres down the road. The impact of the accident resulted in both vehicles being totalled and Colin requiring emergency spinal surgery at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Colins spine was compressing onto his spinal cord restricting fluid to his brain resulting in a total loss of feeling to all the right side of his body. Colin required C4-C6 or his spine to be immediately removed (anterior cervical corpectomy) as the pressure of his spine onto his spinal cord was so significant and if delayed would result in further loss to other parts of his body. Colin had a bone graft taken from his hip, putting part of his hip into his spine. This area was then caged, plated and fused together meaning Colin has lost a significant amount of mobility.

Since surgery Colin has been diagnosed with a Functional Neurological Disorder meaning his brain doesn't communicate to parts of his body. With this disorder and his spinal injuries Colin is wheel chair bound, unable to walk or do any day to day task including feeding himself.

Hearing the words from specialist 'you will never be able to return back to your dream job' has shattered Colin as he continues to grieve the loss of what was once his life. Colins only dream is to be able to stand unassisted and hopefully one day be able to walk again.

Our beautiful children are witnessing not only their dad but their hero go from being their dad who would enjoy motorbike riding, wakeboarding, swimming, tickling them and kicking the footy around with all 5 of them to their dad not being able to move and being confined to his wheel chair or mobility bed.

Any help would be hugely appreciated as Colin continues to battle the huge road ahead of him!

Much love
