Colin Huggins

Colin Huggins is a performing pianist in Washington Square Park. He's been playing here for almost two decades and is as much a staple to this space as the arch is. Colin and his grand piano, a sixty-thousand dollar Steinway that Mr. Huggins has managed to keep in excellent condition considering its extreme outdoor use, are unhoused (an effect of being a performing musician during the pandemic), meaning he's currently sleeping on the piano in the park every night and has been for a couple of months. Because he is out of funds, we are asking for your help! We are asking on behalf of the community, for the NYU students who, as I type, are sketching his piano for art class, for the people who are invited to lay under the instrument while he plays, for the locals and the tourists who have recorded and reposted hundreds and thousands of videos of him playing under the shade of the east side of the park, for all who have felt inspired by what he has played, for everyone he's ever shared the instrument with, for Colin.
If you do not have the means to help financially, please share this story!
Donated funds will go towards housing Colin, storing and repairing the piano, and covering any ordinary expenses that most of us take for granted (i.e. regular meals, personal affects of hygienic regard, transportation, phone plan, etc.).
