Support Colin's MDMA-Assisted Therapy Training

Dearest family and friends,
On March 18, 2019 I received news that out of thousands of applicants, I was selected to attend the MAPS MDMA Therapy Training Program. The 100-hour training will take place outside of Fort Collins, CO at the beginning of May this year, and I am beyond excited to learn about how to bring this promising new therapy to those who need it -- specifically, the LGBTQ+ community.
Many of you are aware that MDMA-assisted therapy is currently in Phase III clinical trials, where seasoned mental health professionals at approved sites across the US are carefully reviewing the effects of MDMA therapy for those struggling with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and trauma. Currently, the data that we are seeing from the trials indicates not just a significant reduction in PTSD-symptoms, but many study participants are actually no longer qualifying for a PTSD diagnosis after having MDMA therapy. This is one of the biggest advances in mental health we have seen in decades.
Since finishing my master's degree in 2014, I have worked tirelessly for the LGBTQ community, unpacking the traumatic wounds that so many in our community deal with on a day-to-day basis from having grown up with societal and familial homophobia. I believe that there is a huge potential to tap into the healing power of MDMA, and I would like to be a voice advocating for this treatment to be available to the LGBTQ+ community.
Your support would be a huge foundation for me to stand on to ensure that this cutting-edge therapy is made available for our community, and that my voice is heard as we figure out how to expand and scale this kind of therapy.
My goal is $9000, and here is where those funds would go:
- $7500 for the cost of the training, which includes 100 hours of training plus lodging and food.
- $500 for flights and transportation to and from Fort Collins.
- $1000 to cover the the cost of being away from work for the week of the training.
