Collective space and retreat project La Bassa Mar

La Bassa Mar is a self-organized project for and by us: trans*, inter, non-binary queer people, centering those impacted by racism. The aim is to create a space to share survival and resistance strategies, and to grow and thrive collectively and individually. We believe that access to a space where we can slow down, outside of a city, is important in order to regenerate, rethink, grow, connect with each other and find new ways of moving forward. Access to land, sea, space and time to rest is particularly difficult for those affected by intersectional discrimination and economic barriers.

La Bassa Mar is interested in hosting groups and events on a wide range of issues including (but not limited to) anti-racism and decolonization, prison abolition, transfeminism, health and wellness, sex work, sex and sexuality, sustainable gardening and permaculture, youth programmes, art and education. Our priority is to host collectives and groups, but we are also happy to welcome individual visitors. We have the amazing opportunity to use the space for at least the next 15 years, with the possibility of continuing. The house has a maximum capacity of 25 people and is surrounded by one and a half hectares of really old olive trees. There are people living on the property at La Bassa Mar who will welcome you, assist you with your questions and needs and guide you around the space.

We need your financial support to:

- pay the electricity bills

- complete the interior renovation

- make the ground floor wheelchair accessible - we need to renovate the kitchen and toilets and build ramps

- build an outside kitchen for larger groups

- paint and furnish the space

- buying materials to build outside areas for workshops

- renew the soil, which has been treated with herbicides for over thirty years

- build a pond for animals and insects to drink from

- build a space for bicycles

- renovate the electrical system in the house

We have started this project with private loans, but this has not been enough to cover all the needs of the space. With your support, we will be able to keep La Bassa Mar open and as accessible as possible, and provide the seminar and retreat space our communities need.

As well as money to keep the space open, we also welcome donations in kind. We are especially looking for:

- A large tent (to provide an outdoor workshop space that can withstand the wind and is easy to put up and take down).

- Caravans or mobile homes in general to offer more accommodation

- Mats and puzzle mats (needed for many types of workshops)

- Small tents. Also sleeping bags, which are useful in all seasons (to accommodate more people, especially in summer)

- A projector and screen (to allow groups to work on ongoing projects and show films)

- Orange tree, salvia, laurel, roses, grape, mint, almond (due to the dry temperature we are looking for suitable plants and trees)

- Organic fertilizer (to make this space as green as possible)

- Books in different languages by BIPoC authors or relevant to our communities

- Painting and drawing materials

- Table tennis and equipment

- Vacuum cleaner

La Bassa Mar es un proyecto autogestionado por y para nosotres: personas trans*, inter, nobinaries y queer, centrado en aquellas afectadas por el racismo. El objetivo es crear un espacio donde intercambiar estrategias de supervivencia y lucha, así como crecer y prosperar tanto colectiva como individualmente.

Creemos que el acceso a un espacio donde poder bajar el ritmo, lejos de la ciudad, es importante para regenerarse, repensarse, crecer, conectar entre nosotres, y encontrar nuevas maneras de seguir adelante. El acceso a la tierra, el mar, el espacio y el tiempo para descansar es especialmente complicado para quienes se ven afectades por discriminaciones interseccionales y limitaciones económicas.

La Bassa Mar tiene interés en alojar grupos y eventos que aborden una gran variedad de temas, incluyendo (pero no limitados a) antirracismo y descolonización, abolición de las prisiones, transfeminismo, salud y bienestar, trabajo sexual, sexo y sexualidad, jardinería sostenible y permacultura, programas dirigidos para jóvenes, arte y educación. Damos prioridad al hospedaje de colectivos y grupos, pero también estamos encantades de recibir a visitantes individuales.

Tenemos la increíble oportunidad de utilizar el espacio durante al menos los próximos 15 años, con la posibilidad de continuar.

La casa tiene una capacidad máxima de 25 personas y está rodeada por 1 hectárea y media de olivos centenarios. Hay personas viviendo en la propiedad de La Bassa Mar para darles la bienvenida, ayudarles atendiendo a sus preguntas y necesidades y guiarles por el espacio.

Necesitamos tu apoyo financiero para:

- pagar las facturas de electricidad

- terminar de renovar el interior

- hacer la planta baja accesible en silla de ruedas; para ello hay que reformar cocina, aseos y construir rampas

- construir una cocina exterior para grupos más grandes

- pintar, amueblar y arreglar el espacio

- comprar material para construir espacios exteriores cubiertos para talleres

- renovar el suelo que fue tratado con herbicidas durante más de treinta años

- construir un estanque para que animales e insectos puedan beber agua

- construir un espacio para bicicletas

- renovar el sistema eléctrico de la casa

Iniciamos este proyecto utilizando préstamos privados, pero no ha sido ni es suficiente para cubrir todo lo que el espacio requiere. Con tu apoyo podremos conseguir que La Bassa Mar funcione y sea más accesible, y ofrecer el tipo espacio para seminarios y retiros que nuestras comunidades necesitan.

Además de dinero para mantener el espacio abierto, también estamos encantades de recibir donaciones materiales. Buscamos especialmente:

- Una tienda grande (para poder ofrecer un espacio de taller en el exterior, que resista el viento y sea fácil de (des)armar)

- Caravanas o en general casas móviles para ofrecer más alojamiento

- Alfombrillas y esterillas de tipo puzzle (son necesarias para muchos tipos de talleres)

- Pequeñas tiendas de campaña. También sacos de dormir que son útiles en todas las estaciones (para acoger a más gente, especialmente en verano)

- Un proyector y una pantalla (para que los grupos puedan trabajar en proyectos en curso y proyectar películas)

- Naranjo, Salvia, Laurel, Rosas, Uva, Menta, Almendro (debido a la temperatura seca buscamos plantas y árboles que se adapten)

- Biofertilizantes (para que este espacio sea lo más verde posible)

- Libros en diferentes idiomas de escritoras racializades o relevantes para nuestras comunidades

- Materiales para pintar y dibujar

- Tenis de mesa y su equipamiento

- Aspiradora
