Over the last 4 years Change the Outcome has worked tirelessly to educate young people about the disease of addiction, the opioid epidemic and simple things that can be done to save lives. We've led fact based, honest conversations with more than 40,000 students, parents and educators across Minnesota.
It's been an incredible, gratifying journey to see our program grow to help so many young Minnesotans. Today, living with the realities of a Global Pandemic, Change the Outcome finds itself facing a new challenge: delivering our program in a "distant learning" format so students can safely get this essential education.
Now more than ever people are searching for ways to escape the stress and anxiety of all that is happening in our communities. Prescriptions for anti-anxiety medications (which can be highly addictive) have increased more than 40% in the past 8 months. Overdose fatalities have increased exponentially this year and are the leading cause of death for young people.
As we start this 2020-21 school year CTO can’t offer our normal classroom panels or school wide presentations but we can continue our program in a “distant learning” format. Initially we were concerned that the program's quality would suffer if it was presented this way, but the feedback we received from our spring and summer students/teachers was incredibly positive. As the school year begins, we have more requests for our program than we can possibly accommodate with the new constraints. We're at a point that requires immediate action.
We've developed a strategy to meet all requests through the creation of a companion film that will replace the "in person" part of our program. Our curriculum will become something that teachers can access anytime, anywhere– giving us broader and more rapid reach into classrooms across the state.
To make this new format a reality—and to keep helping a diverse audience of students —we need your help. Whether it’s $5 or $500+, every dollar donated will be used to provide distant learning programs to schools and communities and will help save lives.
