College Graduate Gone Homeless During COVID
Donation protected
I had to think about setting up a GoFundMe multiple times because I like working for what I want and I've got a lot of pride instilled in me, but I'm coming to an understanding that asking for a hand isn't a sign of weakness but rather a sign of community. Please consider and donate. Sharing goes a long way too! You never know who this reaches.
My name is Misbah Awan and I am a 2020 Sociology degree graduate of Bard College. After this summer, I will be an educator in a public school metropolitan area setting. I would like that to eventually turn into working on an administrative level to create student curriculums that are culturally sensitive and innovative with the hopes of building my own school one day. My other aspirations include becoming certified in becoming a doula/childbirth coach and flipping houses.
Soon after graduating, I was forced to leave the house after 4 years of on and off disagreements, arguments, disrespect, miscommunication and lack of willingness to receive understanding of the situations at hand with my parents. The guilt tripping and emotional manipulation felt overwhelming. COVID-19 made matters more urgent, given that my movements became severely restricted. Home started feeling more suffocating than ever and the thought of family now feels so far away. Given all this, I continue to count my blessings. The position I am in, however, requires me to ask for financial assistance.
At the moment, I am working a part time job to satisfy my weekly spendings and also have a virtual internship for my savings. My plan also included transitional into a shelter soon; however, I am currently having trouble because of the pandemic and long waitlists. My living situation included sleeping in a car, hotel living and I am currently now at a shelter that's programming ends soon!
I will be using this money for my day-to-day expenses, my own nutritional needs, daily food for my puppies, new clothing since I left so much of my stuff behind at my parents, and feminine hygiene reasons. All donations will be for this cause only.
Currently, I am looking to open a PO Box, hunt for apartments, build my credit, and apply for driving school.
Always appreciated.
