Collin & Christina's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Jenny, Christina's sister and Collin's aunt and previous foster mom! Collin is the third "C" of Christina, Chloe and Collin. Chloe and Collin are Christina's two fur babies. Christina adopted Collin in September 2013 from Rocket Dog Rescue when he was around 6 years old. We don't know very much about his start in life except that Rocket Dog had him because they pulled him from the Contra Costa Animal shelter in Martinez, CA . He is actually named after the vampire Barnabas Collins because the shelter found him in the back of their facility dumped during the middle of the night in a box where they typically put dogs after they have been euthanized (i.e. he came back from the dead). My sisters and I fostered him for a few months before Christina decided to adopt him. Even though he looks like a cute fluffy little friend, he was always passed by because of his age and a bone deformity in both of his front legs. Although he's able to live a happy life with this issue, potential adopters were afraid of committing.
Since then he's been one lucky boy, living with Christina and Chloe. And if you know Christina, she treats her animals better than she treats her sisters!
Unfortunately, 2015 has been a tough one on Collin and Christina.
- In January 2015, Collin was diagnosed with "dry eye" and was treated for ulcers in his eyes because of it
- In April 2015, Collin fell down at the park unexepectely. He needed his left ACL repaired (yes, dogs have ACLs!)
- In August 2015 just as the vet gave him the thumbs up to return to the park after his first ACL surgery, he needed to get his other ACL (left this time) repaired (each of these surgeries cost $4,000)
This little guy can't get a break - almost two weeks ago, on November 8, Christina had to rush him to the emergency pet hospital because he seemed out of it and then had a seizure due to low glucose levels. After running a ton of tests, the doctors found out that his insulin levels were extremely high and thought he may have tumors on his pancreas.
Faced with a tough decision, Christina agreed to the surgery. When the doctors performed the surgery, they removed 20+ tumors on his pancreas, liver, and lymph node ranging in size from pinhead, 1/2 pea, pea size, and 1 that was a grape tomato size to help save Collin. He made it out of the surgery successfully. After the surgery, he had some complications - inflamed pancreas, inflamed heart, but Christina and the doctors and medical staff never gave up on him. Christina selflessly put in hours at the hospital and has blown through savings in medical bills in order to make sure he got the care and love he needed.
As of today - two full weeks later, he's still in the hospital, showing signs of improvement, and eating. We're hoping he'll get to go home tomorrow (November 23).
Well the docs were right, Collin has Pancreatic Cancer, but his prognosis is hopeful. With diet management and medications that cost $450 a month to manage his conditions, he will be able to recover and spend the rest of the days getting the best treatment - lots of TLC - with his family.
Christina didn't want me to ask her friends and our community for help (I'm sure that doesn't surprise any of you), but she and Collin need it. The money you donate to this fund will help pay the balance of Christina's $22,000 and counting in medical bills and will bring peace of mind. Your contribution of $10, $50, $100 - whatever you can afford - to this fund will mean so much to me, Christina, Collin and the rest of our family as our dogs ARE our family and this could have happened to any of us.
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for reading this and considering a donation.
Please feel free to ask me any questions!
