"Colony Collapse" Creation and Performance

Donation protected
Colony Collapse is an independent dance project led by dancer and choreographer Marisa Ricci.

At the intersection of art and activism, the piece explores freedom of expression through contemporary movement supported by classical technique, and investigates the intricacies of Colony Collapse Disorder; a phenomenon where worker bees fly out in search of food and cannot navigate back to their hive, thus depriving the queen of sustenance, weakening her reproductive abilities and eventually causing a total collapse of the hive. Consequently, the bee population is on a decline and as bees are our primary pollinators, global biodiversity and agricultural capacities are greatly affected.

This project started as part of a choreographic residency at DaCo (Blumberg Dance) in 2022. The work has since expanded to 20 minutes with 4 dancers. We have graciously been selected to appear in the outdoor programming at the 21st edition of Festival Quartiers Danses in Montreal (September 2023).

In preparation for this presentation, your generous contributions will help with:
  • Artist’s fees
  • Studio rental fees
  • Costuming and other production elements
  • Travel to and accommodation expenses in Montreal

As we patiently await the results of additional government funding, we are already actively in our creative process. Your support is integral to this project and on behalf of my dancers and myself, we are incredibly grateful!
