Colors of the World Crayons for Cortland Schools

Donation protected
In May, Crayola announced they will be releasing a new set of 24 skin tone crayons called the Colors of the World. As someone that grew up not having crayons that accurately represented all the persons in my mixed-race family, this is amazing news on a personal level for me and I'm so elated that children now will not have the same struggle I did growing up.

In the announcement of the new set, the CEO of Crayola said, "With the world growing more diverse than ever before, Crayola hopes our new Colors of the World crayons will increase representation and foster a greater sense of belonging and acceptance. We want the new Colors of the World crayons to advance inclusion within creativity and impact how kids express themselves."

After speaking with Lisa Kaup, the principal of Cortland, NY's school for grades K-2, Barry Primary, we are estimating around 455 students in the upcoming school year although the number of students typically fluctuates during the summer as students are enrolled and disenrolled.

Each pack of 24 crayons is currently listed at $2.49 on the Crayola website (linked above). Rounding to $2.50 a pack and with the hope of attaining 470 packs to ensure we will be able to provide a pack for each student even if the number of students fluctuates upward, we are hoping to raise $1,175.

Currently, kindergarteners are slated to return to school on September 9th, with the other grades beginning on the 10th. (Cortland School Calendar) In the event that schools are not able to open and students will be learning from home as they did at the end of the previous school year, we will be working with Barry Primary School to ensure the packs are given to the students along with their other learning material.

Every donation helps and is greatly appreciated! Even if you're only able to donate $2.50 for a single pack, that's still one more child that will be able to experience coloring with skin tones that more accurately reflect the spectrum of the diverse world and community we live in. If you're not able to donate, please consider sharing this link on your social media platform(s) of choice to show your support.

Thank you all in advance!
