Colton Farms needs help to stay afloat
Colton Farms has done so much for our island community providing educational opportunities for Oahu keiki and enjoyment at events like the 50th State Fair, Fourth of July at Pearl Harbor, carnivals and the Waimanalo Halloween pumpkin patch and sunflower fields, but now with the pandemic, everything has changed and Colton Farms is struggling. Ironically this was the year Claude thought things would take off investing so much into his business last year.
Claude has already given away and sold off some animals just to continue his operations. It costs money to feed and take care of each animal.
According to a recent article in the Advertiser , "His feed bill runs roughly $30,000 a year. He spends about $700 a week when events are held, since the livestock are showcased in small enclosures and cannot graze, and about $50 a week without events. And it’s not just feed. Costs include maintenance on the farm, fixing fences, fuel for his truck and so on. Colton had been bringing animals to school events, which he does for free, to teach and to expose children to various animals they might not otherwise see."
On a personal note, I've never started a gofundme before, but it's been too long already and Claude needs help. I know my family (especially my kids) really enjoy seeing all the animals Claude takes such good care of. It's a blessing for our kids to have a chance to interact, see, and learn about all the amazing creatures Claude works so hard to take care of each and everyday.
I know these times are not easy for many, but hope that some can find it in their hearts to give to Claude to keep his farm afloat during this pandemic so that once we get through it, our keiki and families can continue to enjoy all the wonderful things that come from Claude and his farm.
