Tax deductible
To commemorate the memory of Geoff Lee, his family would ask that you please donate to a project Geoff helped to create. We are raising money to benefit the Chinatown Organization for Media Awakening, and any donation would help. His family wants to support his wishes to establish resources for the next generation and to give more visibility to Asian Representation. The money with be used to help establish a creative and supportive space where this can happen. The funds will go directly to the charity afterwards. This money will go to fund a future sound studio dedicated to Geoff Lee, location to be determined.
About COMA:
"Chinatown Organization for Media Awakening will promote positive imagery of all Chinatowns. C.O.M.A. will build bridges with mainstream media production companies and governmental agencies; act as an advocate and conduit between media entities and local Chinese communities; will create, produce, and develop mentorship programs with major media companies to ensure Chinatown's history and culture are represented in an accurate and positive light, and will seek funding to develop and create programming that accurately portrays contributions of Chinese Americans in the American narrative."
And now a story from Geoff's Life:
"When I arrived in New York City, I set out to search the Asian American activist scene. Laura Chan steered me to Basement Workshop, a gathering place for Asian American artists, musicians, craftsmen, dancers, poets and thinkers. The first guy I met was Geoff Lee. We immediately hit it off. Geoff lived right on Mott Street and knew everything and everybody NY Chinatown. Geoff built a recording studio at Basement, and we jammed and hung out, and he arranged free use of the studio for me. Geoff started a punk band The Heat, and they played the Lower East Side scene. Then he became an actor and is in hundreds of movies, TV and stage plays. We always kept in touch. My niece became best friends with his daughter. They came to Tokyo together and visited me. When my niece got married 4 years ago, I cold-called him after 20 years from Chinatown and told him to come downstairs and show me the best noodle house. We had our lunch as if we had seen each other only yesterday. Geoff was loved by everyone. Peace be with you, Geoff Lee.
