Recovery Fund for Comeback Zack Morris

“Comeback Zack”

That’s a nickname my younger brother picked up over the years, and for good reason!

Nothing can keep him down. Not paralysis, not countless hospital stays, not more brushes with death than most of us experience in our lifetimes. In the face of these things, Zack not only makes a comeback - he thrives! He’s a tenacious, hardworking, fun-loving, adventure-seeking man who seems to turn every struggle into an opportunity to live an even fuller life.

Some of you may know he was tested by a very great struggle this May when a small bowel obstruction led to sepsis and a coma for Zack. He had a very close call with death, and we are blessed that he’s still here.

Yet another victory for Comeback Zack!

While Zack is recovering well, it has been a VERY difficult few months. In addition to losing three months of work, Zack also battled through:
  • Pneumonia
  • Another hospital stay
  • The loss of his grandmother and his uncle
  • The loss of his dog
  • And the development of severe wounds that are still trying to heal today

Though he has returned to his pharmacy work from home, his wounds do not allow him to be back at work in the hospital.

Ironic as this may sound, as I'm writing this story about Zack; he just called to let me know he received an update on his phone from the lab that he has developed a drug-resistant infection in one of his wounds which will force him to go back on IV medications.

Zack also just told me that his Insurance provider will no longer cover any more home health visits! Meaning Zack will have to pay 100% of the costs from today forward to not only fight off this NEW infection but also heal his other lingering wounds.

This new development has now backed Zack into a corner:
  • "Do I pay for my home health care visits myself so I can stay home and continue to work...
  • Or "Do I check myself back into the hospital, miss more work with no income, so my Insurance will have to pay?"

My heart is breaking for Zack, and I'm struggling to finish the rest of his Go Fund Me story.

In addition, since May, his girlfriend Anna (God BLESS Her!!) has been unable to return to work as she serves as a caretaker and housekeeper.

And throughout all this, the hospital bills and insurance claims will continue to roll in.

I can't sit around and watch these burdens pile up on my little brother anymore.

Zack is doing everything he can to continue having a good quality of life, but there are ways we can help!

Currently, Zack has been approved for a grant to help make his home more wheelchair accessible - the major point being to cover his ramp and driveway with a roof. For years now, Zack has had no rain cover in New Orleans as he wheels outside of his house, loads into his car, and heads to work, starting the work day drenched. The other modifications allow Zack to access his closet, bathroom, and kitchen easily. These steps will all significantly improve the quality of Zack’s daily life - as the ease will allow him to live more freely like the independent person he is.

The grant only covers a portion of these home modification costs; I have partnered with the construction team with my pledge to raise what is required to cover the rest.

The combination of this opportunity to improve Zack’s daily life, the accumulating medical debt, the losses of household income, and the general physical stress of recovery with these challenges is why I am reaching out to you today.

Working closely with Zack and Anna, we believe the goal amount of $50,000 probably won't cover everything but will give them a great deal of support in this time of need.

Zack works very hard to live a life rich in love for his community, and this is a time for his community to come together for him.

If you are able to give, share, and spread the word, we can all give Zack the support he needs for one of the biggest comebacks he’s ever made.

With Love & Gratitude,
