Comedians on Call

At first glance, the year 2020 has given the people of the United States precious little to smile about. The stark fact that more than 200,000 American lives have been claimed by Covid-19 ensures this will go down as one of the grimmest years in the nation’s history. Yet it is in dark times that we most need light relief. Nothing serves as better medicine than a little bit laughter, which is why we created Comedians on Call to ease the loneliness and fear of social isolation among some of the most vulnerable members of our society.
Comedians on Call is a pro-bono comedian helpline that connects older adults with volunteer comedians for a few laughs and a smile. Partnering with comedians across the country and seniors in need we have facilitated nearly 100 small group calls since May 2020. Each week we conduct outreach to new and returning older adults who are excited about the opportunity to connect over the phone, and enjoy some laughter to ease their isolation.
Our effort were recognized with a feature in the Bkylner a well as on WPIX11.
We've partnered with national non-profit organizations to serve their clients from Good Shepherd's Services to JASA (the Jewish Association for Services-Aged,) and continue to get inquires to expand our service.
Everything we have done to date has been sheer sweat, tears, and money from yours truly and our incredible group of volunteers. To keep this program alive we need the help to support our tech infrastructure and day to day operations.
