Comfortably Floyd The Best Pink Floyd Show Goes On

Hello I'm Comfortably Floyd. Over this past year, I've gained 15k+ followers on TikTok (ComfortablyFloyd Official) performing the timeless music of Pink Floyd on vocals and multiple instruments as a solo artist. Once the weather warmed up in May 2023, I started doing live TikTok shows from my unfinished future music studio. Over these months, the show has gained the reputation as the best live Pink Floyd show on TikTok, while getting even better each day. If you are reading this, you’ve most likely already seen and heard the show, so let’s get into the need for this fundraiser.

NEED 2 WINDOWS & INTERIOR DOOR

To get through my first winter of shows, so many fans and supporters helped me warm the room with installation of a space heater, its ventilation pipes, and coal for the heater. Thanks to all this support, the show will make it through to the Spring without much interruption. This fundraiser aims to continue the progress on this performance space well into the upcoming warmer seasons and next winter by installing windows and a door.

The building that houses the music performance room is an old damaged building, built in the 1930’s, that we are slowly rehabbing into what will become our future family home. The current performance room is where my music workspace will always be. When we began this project late in early 2022, inflation and rising construction costs quickly changed what our budget could afford to build. Instead of affording to complete this rehab project, our budget ran out after building the roof, brick walls, and cement floors. Even though the full rehab of our future home has paused, this Pink Floyd show must go on.

The performance room needs to be isolated and insulated from weather elements and from the rest of the building/house so that I can work in there no matter what is going on with the rest of the house construction. This isolation and insulation will limit the escaping heat, while keeping pests, and future construction dust out of my work place. Funding for the windows and door will help keep these shows going and growing with minimal disruption, while also preparing for next winter.

Currently the two window spaces are covered with plastic painter’s tarp with thin Styrofoam panels, then covered by cloth sheets. The doorway leading to the rest of the unfinished house is currently blocked only by a tall dresser with a box on top of it. There is no door that separates this room from the rest of the unheated building.

The studio space heater, funded entirely by supporters of this TikTok show, helped keep the shows going through the winter. Lack of windows and a room door requires more energy costs to keep things warm enough to perform, and warm enough for safe equipment storage. Over this past winter, the cold caused the loss/damage of an acoustic guitar, a laptop, guitar pedalboard power supply, and more. The cold has kept me away from spending the long hours required to create and program new light shows during cold seasons. It has also made it difficult to avoid hand cramps from playing for hours in the cold night after night. The lack of a room door has allowed rodents and bugs to come into the room from other rooms in the building. Since various pests have already interrupted a few shows during the winter, I fear for the warmer insects season without an airtight room door.

An average night of a Comfortably Floyd TikTok live performance contains 30 to 40 songs spanning a wide variety of Pink Floyd's music, beginning with my solid performance of Pink Floyd's “The Wall”. The constantly expanding set lists include songs from other great albums such as “Piper at the Gates of Dawn”, “Dark Side of the Moon”, “Meddle”, “Wish You Were Here”, “Animals”, “The Final Cut”, “Division Bell”, and many others including Roger Waters’ solo albums. For example, the song "Pigs (3 Different Ones)" is currently being expanded by the addition of the talkbox guitar effect to emulate the Pigs guitar solo from the album.

Comfortably Floyd's live shows are unique is so many ways that makes them stand out from the crowd. The synchronized lights, lasers, and video effects help the viewers feel the true Floydian vibes. Not only vocals and guitar are performed along with backing tracks, as in many TikTok shows, but also keyboards, saxophone, and sometimes trumpet. My ability to emulate the vocal timbres and emotions of Roger Waters, David Gilmour, and Syd Barrett enables the listeners to feel immersed in the sound of the original artists. Comfortably Floyd's specialty of singing Roger Waters, and talent on multiple instruments expands the scope of the typical Floyd repertoire to include many songs from The Final Cut album, such as The Gunner's Dream featuring it's amazing sax solo .

The music, by its very nature, is emotional, having rhythm, stress, accent and intonation. Music of Pink Floyd, combined with the visuals of lighting, lasers, video, transcends us to times, places, and emotions on all levels.

There is a significant amount of time and money that goes into such live productions. The typical current setup uses 17 light/laser fixtures, guitar & vocal effects boards, video projector, fog machine, mixers, in-ear click tracks, music backing tracks with videos, audio interface, 2 iPhones, guitars, reverb effects, microphones, sound equalizer, headphones, powered speaker, 2 MacBook Pro laptops, saxophone, and sometimes a trumpet. Electricity costs of about $200-$300 per month are incurred to power these nightly shows. Eventually I wish this to become my prime source of work in the future. Whether it be on TikTok live or in some other venue, I hope to share my talents of what I do best with the world continue the far-reaching positive impacts of this life-changing music.
