Centenary of Bose-Einstein Statistics at Dhaka University

Help fund the conference titled “Dhaka's Quantum Legacy: A Century of Bose-Einstein Statistics,” where we will honor Satyendra Nath Bose's legacy, including his pioneering work on quantum statistics and Bose-Einstein condensation. This will be a celebration of the centenary of Bose's groundbreaking work at University of Dhaka, where he dedicated 24 transformative years of his life to the field of physics. Despite initial challenges, Bose's paper "Planck's Law and the Light-Quantum Hypothesis" received global recognition through Einstein's endorsement, marking Dhaka University as the birthplace of quantum statistics. The event will feature engaging discussions on Bose-Einstein statistics, statistical physics, and complex systems, with participation from leading international scientists and researchers in the field.

As of now some of the confirmed speakers include:

Prof. Hilda Cerdeira, Instituto de Física Teórica, Brazil;
Prof. Abhishek Dhar, ICTS-TIFR, Bengaluru, India;
Prof. Ulrike Feudel, Universität Oldenburg, Germany;
Prof. Zahid Hasan, Princeton University, USA;
Prof. Muhammad N. Huda, University of Texas at Arlington, USA;
Prof. Nabil Iqbal, Durham University, UK;
Dr. Nafiz Ishtiaque, Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques, France;
Prof. Gyu-Boong Jo, HKUST, Hong Kong
Prof. Tomasz Kapitaniak, University of Lodz, Poland;
Prof. Juergen Kurths, Humboldt University, Germany;
Prof. Kevin Mitchell, University of California, Merced, USA;
Prof. Rajarshi Roy, University of Maryland, USA;
Prof. Sourov Roy, IACS, Kolkata, India;
Prof. Asoke Sen, ICTS-TIFR, Bengaluru, India;
Prof. Krishnendu Sengupta, IACS, Kolkata, India;
Prof. Sitabhra Sinha, IMS, Chennai, India;
Prof. Masahito Ueda, University of Tokyo, Japan
to name a few.

No student can complete their undergraduate studies without learning about Bose-Einstein statistics, and the world owes a debt to Satyendra Bose for his groundbreaking work. Soon after Bose's seminal paper, Einstein applied his ideas to ideal gases and predicted Bose-Einstein condensation. In 2001, Cornell, Wieman, and Ketterle won the Nobel Prize in Physics for achieving Bose-Einstein condensation in dilute gases. Fundamental particles like Boson, Photon, W and Z Bosons, Gluon and Higgs Boson follow the Bose-Einstein statistics and are named after the physicist Satyendra Nath Bose.

The conference will be held from November 7th to 10th at Dhaka University. Your generous contributions will help us bring together brilliant minds to explore the future of quantum physics and celebrate a century of scientific achievement. This conference would greatly inspire our young researchers and students and we hope it will play a pivotal role in encouraging our government to invest in science and in particular establishing a world class institute for fundamental science.

Currently, Bangladesh invests 1.69% of its GDP in education, while UNESCO recommends at least 6%. The current economic condition of the country has worsened. Declining of the reserve of Bangladesh bank from more than 40 billion to less than 19 billion is a clear testament to that. Despite the challenging economic conditions, we believe that a world-class international conference can be held with your support. Your donations will cover local food, accommodation and transports, travel expenses for some of the participants, a gala night with cultural program and a river cruise. It will not merely be a conference rather a celebration. We would like to celebrate the event grandly so that it matches with the height of Satyen Bose and the magnanimity of his theory. To this end, your support is crucial. Please donate to make this event a success and inspire the next generation of physicists.
