Commission a New Work by Composer Jesse Plessis

Donation protected
In 2023 the Vancouver-based classical music series Muzewest Concerts asked emerging Canadian pianist-composer Jesse Plessis ( https://www.jesseplessis.com/ ) to write a new work for a concert to be held May 9, 2024 in Vancouver BC, and performed by soprano Melody Courage, cellist Ariel Carrabre, and the composer at the piano. Jesse Plessis pursued a collaboration with Tahitian poet Flora Aurima Devatine to create a work for voice, cello, and piano called "...A L'AUTRE BOUT DE LA NUIT..." ("On the other side of night"), which speaks about Polynesian Indigenous perspectives on the Pacific Ocean and more generally about the experience of post-colonial Indigenous peoples across the world who have lost ties to ancestral rites, culture, knowledge, and ways of life.

Donor perks include a digital copy of a recording of the world premiere of the work. Please use this contact form to recieve your copy: https://www.jesseplessis.com/contact

Federal and Provincial funding to the arts sectors have been severely cut back since the spring of 2023, and funding through public agencies for this project has fallen through, so we are turning to crowdfunding to pay Jesse Plessis a commission fee for his work for Muzewest. This goal amount is based on the Schedule of Minimum Commissioning Fees set by the Canadian League of Composers every year on the first of January (https://www.composition.org/resources/commissioning-rates/).

Thank you very much for your time, attention, and your help.
