COMMON PEOPLE - a new play by Nicholas McInerny
Donation protected
It’s Midsummers Day on Clapham Common and the hottest day of the year. No wonder everyone is so thirsty.
In the hospice Gregory is elegantly fading away, doing crosswords, and dreaming of hot sex. As night draws in, so the siren call from the chorus of Nuns and leather Daddies over the fence grow stronger – will he ever go cruising again?
And when his nurse, Yvonne, starts to hear those voices too - will she be tempted to give him what he wants?
Because who is dying to be touched? And who is really dying?
COMMON PEOPLE is a play about love, desire, intimacy, middle age, and the revolutionary nature of sexual fantasy even in the presence of death. After several very successful readings, we are now staging a full production for 3 weeks at Omnibus theatre, London, July 2024.
Nicholas is a hugely experienced award winning writer and podcaster with over 85 professional credits. He has had worked produced by Soho Theatre, Red Shift and Oxford Touring Company.
COMMON PEOPLE will be produced by Liam Shea/Campfire theatre as their second production after their very successful first show Merboy back in January 2023 - and directed by Scott Le Crass
Alongside the production will be a large community new writing project entitled Kink In Their Armour, working with 5 community groups from Croydon and the Isle of Wight writing about the time they feel their most beautiful. We also have workshops planned with Trinity House Hospice and Positive East.
This fundraiser is about raising money to support the launch period of the production, initial marketing, community outreach and artistic development.
We know times are tight, but can you help us raise an initial £5k?
