COVID-19 Patient Communication Boards
Donation protected
First off, I promise I will not make a dime off this... I am a speech language pathologist (SLP) working closely with COVID-19 positive patients, including in the ICU. SLPs specialize in helping people communicate. People on ventilators are unable to speak. They are unable to communicate their feelings and needs with the medical staff around them. There are widely available picture boards for this purpose, but I have found that mostly what people want to say are not on them. To supplement those products, I started making these boards about 20 years ago. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I revised them and have produced them in English, Spanish, and Creole. I'm also working on a Navajo version. They have the alphabet and phrases for pointing, and an empty back side for dry erase writing. They can be wiped clean to be sanitized and reused. Through my personal funds, donations, and helpful printers, I have provided over 1000 boards to 10 hospitals in my area., and am now sending them around the country as well. I would like to send thousands more to hotspots around the country, but my funds are almost depleted. Any amount at all would help. People are spending their final days without any way to communicate. Others are coming off the vent unable to speak because of vocal weakness or a tracheostomy. As a SLP with over 25 years of experience and a soft spot for the trach/vent population, this just breaks my heart. Any amount at all you can help would be so appreciated! An extra big thank you goes to Molly Simpson of Graphics2 (Graphics2LLC.com), SpeedPro (speedproscottsdale.com), Pf Solutions (pf-solutions.com), and Lucite Creations (lucite creations.com) for all their help.
