Community Development Project, Mongolia 2025 (Playground)

Help Curtin Students with fundraising for our Mongolia community development project in Gachuurt and Tunkhel!

This fundraiser will be focused towards supporting the Playground Team, which will build outdoor amenities for the youth of Tunkhel and the Children of the Lotus Childrens Centre. Our current goal is to raise $3,500.

Continuing on from the 2023, and 2024 study tours, 22 Curtin University Students will be returning to Mongolia on an international practicum to enhance the public amenity of the town of Tunkhel, in the Selenge Province of Mongolia.

The team of 22 students (spilt into two groups) will spend their time continuing with the enhancing the small towns train station, and public park.

While Tunkhel has been the key focus area over the past two study tours, Curtin staff have been in contact with a small Orphanage, in Gachuurt, a small town located 30km's east of Ulaanbaatar, the nations capital city.

The Lotus Children’s Centre is an official Mongolian non-governmental organisation (NGO) that currently acts as a home for around 75 vulnerable and abused Mongolian children and also takes part in community out-reach projects. The Lotus Children’s Centre, located in Gachuurt in the suburbs of Ulaanbaatar, is not only a home but also a centre for development for abandoned and vulnerable children.

Our time will be delegated evenly between Tunkhel and Gachuurt, with the aim of enhancing the outdoor public playground amenities for the youth of both Tunkhel and the Lotus Children’s centre. We aim to work closely with the youth to create areas where young children and teenagers alike can socially mix with one another. Our goal is to create a thriving community hub for the young people of Tunkhel and enhance the amenities of the Orphanage.
