Trade Street Community Diversity Mural
"My journey in creative arts intertwined with biological sciences the day that I entered Winston-Salem State University as a Biology major and Chemistry minor. Past, present, and future... to inspire and connect artistry with the real world in hopes to shift perspectives towards truth, justice, and beauty. My work is dedicated to healing." - Georgie Nakima
We're raising money to pay NC artist and WSSU graduate Georgie Nakima to paint a community mural at 901 N Trade Street in Industry Hill this August. (Image of wall below)
In 2014 we chose to become The City of Arts and Innovation, and we have been too slow in bringing this to life. As we push forward, we MUST have diversity in art and diversity in artists.
PLEASE NOTE: The above image is NOT the mural that will be painted, but an example of previous work. She will be creating new art for this mural to showcase the diversity within our natural and physical environments - as well as our unique history with tobacco and as a vegetable distribution hub.
At $9000, the mural will be 10x30 feet. This cost covers only raw materials and her time.
Please join us in supporting Georgie's art, the diversity of art in Winston-Salem, and producing a loud declaration for truth, justice, and beauty in our streets.
We need to raise $9,000 quickly! -- By Monday August 10th.
