Community Free Fridge at Kingston Motel

Hi Kingston friends!

My name is Haley - I’m a local caseworker working with students and families experiencing homelessness in Kingston. Myself and a close colleague, Kimmer Gifford, (a social worker who has worked with Kingston’s homeless population for 15+ years) are raising money to install a free fridge / pantry at the Kingston Motel, which houses many homeless families, students and individuals.

For context, many displaced youth and families are placed in local motels by the Department of Social Services. The Kingston Motel has become one of the most densely populated of the DSS temporary housing placements The motel itself is isolated from the community, making it hard for its vulnerable tenants (most of whom do not have transportation) to access basic resources. Additionally, this population faces the most food insecurity. To that end, we are raising money to buy the the materials necessary to put a community free fridge with a surrounding insulated pantry and shelves up on the motel grounds. This will allow for a clean, reliable place for us to put food and water donations and allow community members to support the motel tenants. Anything helps!!! Thanks for reading : )
