Support Kevin to Expand Decriminalization
Hi family, friends, and allies of the psychedelic decriminalization movement in Denver and beyond!
Thank you so much for clicking on the link that brought you here, it means the world to me. It also lets me know that there is a huge community of support for psychedelics and that you know how important decriminalization is, especially for health equity and allowing folks to decide how they want to work with the medicine. To me, it's all about choice.
While we're inching toward regulated access to psychedelics, without decriminalization first there would be no liberty to determine your own relationship with these amazing plants and fungi. Securing this liberty is the foundation of our work, and now I'm asking for your financial support so I can keep advocating for your human rights to responsibly use psilocybin in Denver.
Our victory in Denver two years ago sparked a grassroots psychedelic revolution that has swept the nation. I believe that this movement has the potential to radically transform human culture and society, but that will only occur in an equitable way if we honor tradition and the sacred nature of working with these amazing plants and fungi.
In light of that tradition, our work this fall includes convincing the Denver City Council to expand psilocybin decriminalization in Denver to include: gifting & sharing (without profit) psilocybin mushrooms and the communal use of psilocybin mushrooms in private settings.
This means that people will have the liberty to gather in private group settings to celebrate and commune with psilocybin mushrooms without worrying about law enforcement intervention.
We're also asking the city to:
- train Denver first-responders on psychedelic harm reduction;
- work with local organizations to produce educational materials around the responsible use of psilocybin mushrooms;
- create a data collection and reporting system for any law-enforcement or hospital interactions with psilocybin for ongoing public safety monitoring;
- expand the voting members of the Denver Psilocybin Mushroom Policy Review Panel to be more representative of Denver's diversity; and
- determine how psilocybin therapy can be applied to address mental health issues in Denver.
All of these exciting new developments and recommendations are coming off the heels of the forthcoming Denver Psilocybin Mushroom Policy Review Panel's 2021 Comprehensive Report, a nearly 60-page document detailing the impact of decriminalizing psilocybin mushrooms in Denver, which we'll be presenting in the coming weeks.
Myself and a few other members of the panel have spent hundreds of hours on this document to make sure it will set a high bar and strong precedent for decriminalization, not only here in Denver, but other cities and states nationwide.
To achieve this new state of decriminalization in Denver involves an incredible amount of work, including 1-1 meetings with members of Denver City Council, various Denver agencies, and local non-profits and businesses, organizing town halls, in-person, and digital events so Denver residents are better educated about the proposed amendments and new policies, and coordinating with local allies and community members to run a successful campaign.
As you can imagine, all of this requires not only energy and resources, but also the funding to compensate folks who are taking the time to do this work.
We are also actively exploring what's possible for statewide plant medicine reform to be on the ballot in Colorado in 2022.
The psychedelic movement is a movement by the people, for the people, and I didn't sign up for it to be accountable to corporate interests. My obligations are to the people, to the 90,000+ voters who supported us two years ago, and to the millions of Americans who believe psychedelics like psilocybin can heal.
You deserve to have a strong voice advocating for your interests in these policies that unfold because, at the end of the day, it is folks like you who are reading this who will be impacted by those policies.
I made a commitment to do my best to represent the needs and desires of the psychedelic constituency, the local grassroots community, and it would be an honor to be able to say that this work is funded by the people.
After all, I believe this work is not only about healing, breakthrough, and transformation, but also about unleashing the potential of the human spirit to create a more beautiful world we all know is possible.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I look forward to your support, and to co-creating psychedelic liberty in Denver, in Colorado, and globally.
Warmly,
Kevin
