Community Fundraiser for Carolyn Leigh
Donation protected
At approximately 9 PM on Friday, March 12th, 2021, Vanderhoof RCMP received a call that a semi truck and a pick up truck had collided with two cows. The driver of the pick-up truck was Carolyn Leigh, a single mother of two young boys from Vanderhoof.
The semi-truck struck one cow, lost control and landed in the ditch on the south side of the road. Carolyn’s truck hit a second cow, causing major damage to the front end and causing the hood of the truck to fly up to the windshield. The airbags did not deploy. The seatbelt did not engage.
Carolyn was assessed by paramedics at the scene and opted to be driven home and monitored by a friend. The next morning, she woke up with unbearable pain throughout her head, neck and back. She was brought to St John Hospital in Vanderhoof where tests revealed traumatic brain injury, damage to the cervical spine, and extensive soft tissue damage. For the past week and a half she has been on bed and brain rest. She is suffering from memory loss, associated distress, dizziness, pain from numerous injuries, nausea, fatigue, and psychological trauma.
Carolyn is facing a long recovery. She will be unable to work for the forseable future, putting financial strain on her as she maintains a home for her and her two boys and pets.
All funds raised will go towards helping her pay mortgage and bills and assist in retaining a lawyer to improve the chance of fair settlements being reached with ICBC and any parties found liable.
Carolyn is an energetic community builder, and devotes her life to supporting and enhancing the community around her. Let's help her get back on her feet as she would for all of us.
If you are unable to contribute, please know that Carolyn is already overwhelmed with gratitude at the outpouring of support from her friends and community.
