Community Garden - Sean Marko Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Sean Marko. My mom and I have held plots at Parma Lutheran Church Community Garden for 6 years. This picture is me when I first started as a little gardener. I’ve dedicated my Eagle Scout Project to the garden because I enjoyed my time here and learned so much. 10% of all harvests are donated, and as the Boy Scout slogan says “Do a good turn daily” my goal is to get that number as high as possible. In talking with the garden administrators, we agreed on 6 different tasks that I will be completing from early July until the end of the fall. I understand this is ambitious but I know with your help I can do it! The first thing I will be doing is trimming the hedges making the garden look more aesthetic and not crowded and overgrown. Next, I will be creating a new watering can tower to make it more convenient to use them. Also, I’ll be building two sheds ($500) for daily and winter storage of the tools, tomato cages, wheelbarrows and more to prevent the hassle of the gardeners needing to either take everything home or carry it all down to the church basement. The fourth task is installing a rabbit fence ($300) all around the garden permanently preventing any rabbits from getting in. This maximizes the amount of produce grown and donated to the Parma Hunger Center. The 5th piece of my project is to lift the water storage bins and create a new foundation. The finale, and the most requested piece of the project by the community gardeners is to install borders around all of their plots ($1700) to keep the mulch out and the crops in. I have enlisted the help of my family, friends, neighbors and fellow boy scouts to help me with this work. This garden is very special to me and the gardeners have helped me learn a life skill that I will take with me always. I could use some donations of money to fund this project and make it happen. Anything helps! Thank you so much for anything you can give!
