Community mural and tombstone for Sarah Hegazi

For the one year anniversary of Sarah’s death we are hoping to paint a mural for this courageous and resilient LGBTQ2S+ activist in The Village 

Sarah Hegazi was an Egyptian socialist, writer, and lesbian activist. She was arrested, imprisoned and tortured in prison in Egypt for three months after flying a rainbow flag at a Mashrou' Leila concert in 2017 in Cairo. Hegazi lived with PTSD resulting from the prison torture she had experienced in Egypt. She was granted asylum in Canada, living there until her death.

The mural will be done by the incredibly talented Keitha Biizindam Keeshig-Tobias

 Keeshig-Tobias (Toronto based Anishnaabe muralist. ) I am honoured to be taking on this mural project for the communities that have been touched by Sarah's courage, as someone who has also been touched by suicide and someone very involved in workings towards a world were everyone can feel safe.

FOR THE LONELY ONES

What if I told you that I loved you? Would that make you feel loved?
What if I told you that you are loved and that the only one that is standing in the way is you?
What if I told you that you are not alone and that I will stand by you no matter what happens?
The universe is filled with love and light, you must embrace it, you are not alone within your heart and thoughts.
You are made of love, from the Earth, from the Cosmos, from every living being.
So, when you feel like you are alone and that nobody cares, look around you and see all the beauty that you possess inside.
Know that I am right here, and will always be with you no matter how far or how close I am.
All things are not meant to be understood, it just needs to be accepted, and that is what you need to do.
Embrace yourself and accept yourself.
And when you do, you will find out that you have never been alone.
