Community service by NYC kids in Kenya
Hi, I'm Liam. In April 2021, despite the pandemic, I went with a group of fellow high school students in New York on a spectacular journey to work in one of Africa’s most diverse and innovative community and wildlife destinations. We called this Kids in the Wild, and I am helping run it again in April 2022 by coordinating our new intern program and helping with fundraising.
We are focused on supporting the community-owned Mara North Conservancy by raising funds, doing work in schools and in the community, and working with the local culture. All money raised will go to:
- the local purchase of materials - like fencing, paint, concrete, water tanks, etc
- tools needed to do the work
- education support for local Maasai kids, and
- the Mara North Conservancy, which is where we will live and work.
The communities surrounding Mara North Conservancy have chosen to set their ancestral lands aside and pool them. It is an innovative approach – designed to ensure wildlife can flourish, and tourism can provide new opportunities for the community’s future generations. Like everyone around the world, they have been dreadfully affected by the pandemic - so now we need to ramp up our efforts to help out!
We are spending our time working with these communities – both physically, on development projects, and educationally, with local schools and their students. Our focus is on working, giving, and hopefully creating genuine impact.
Will you please help us meet our fundraising target and deliver in Kenya?
And - if you want to join us in 2022 - please see more information and contact details at our website !
Thanks so much
Liam
