Comox Valley Search and Rescue Needs a Roof!

Hi! My name is Juanita Wells and I am a member of a fabulous team of 60+ volunteers.

There are no paid staff.

We are on call 24/7, 365 days a year!

 

Collectively we contributed over 13,000 hours to search & rescue operations, educational programs, community events and responded to 77 calls in 2021.

 

Our organization has operated in the Comox Valley providing a wide range of search & rescue services including rope, avalanche, swift water rescue, tracking, first aid and the use of K9 units for over 45 years. My team responds to calls for people who are missing, in trouble or in need of medical aid over a large area from Oyster River in the north to Cook Creek in the south and from Buttle Lake in the west to Georgia Strait in the east including Denman & Hornby Islands.

 

To be able to provide this service requires a large amount of equipment, vehicles & training space and like other SAR groups in BC this team relies on donations, fund raising & grants to maintain equipment, train our volunteers and to keep the lights on. For the past 25 years this team has been based out of a small rental site that has been converted into a relatively effective hub for operations & training.

 

Rental costs have sky-rocketed using up vital funds that should be put towards training for our team members, maintaining current equipment and the purchase of new equipment when needed. So the team has made a decision to seek a home owned by our team within the Comox Valley. The lease for our current site ends in 2023 and we need to be able to purchase a location sooner rather than later.
