Completing the World's Oldest Engine Shed
Marley Hill Engine Shed is the oldest in the world still in use by steam locos. To preserve and present the shed for our 2025 tercentenary, volunteers have renewed the concrete floor, repaired pits, installed windows, refitted electrics and replaced the entire roof structure - helped significantly by small donations and grants. We still need to fit smoke chutes, limewash walls, and rebuild the forge and front storeroom.
Please help us keep the shed working and publicly accessible for another 170 years by donating towards its completion. All contributions to the Tanfield Railway Trust will be much appreciated by volunteers and visitors.
