Basic programming is an essential skill for ALL students. My 6th Grade Elective course teaches students basic coding, robotics and valuable life skills. During pre-pandemic times, ALL my students had access to shared classroom materials such as micro:bits and LEGO robotics. I was also able to stand next to my student and look at their screen to help them debug their code.
Our district is now officially distance learning for the coming school year and I've had to re-think and re-vamp this course so that it will be equitable for all my students under this model. I've spent time vetting and piloting different platforms that would be engaging for my students and also easy to use under the distance learning model.
This gofundme is for two main components of this course:
1) subscription to Coderz - a virtual robotics platform that will allow students to experience robotics in the distance learning model. There will be no need to share equipment among students. Note: If you had previously visited this gofundme, the Coderz platform is about half the cost of the previous platform we were considering.
2) micro:bits - a physical computing device that will be given to students to keep. Gifting the device to students means no need to sterilize or share and EVERYONE has one. They can even continue to explore its uses beyond my course!
Under the current economic climate, finding these funds has been extremely difficult and I am saddened for my students. Thus, I turn to you, family, friends and the world wide web for help. Just a little from everyone will get us to our goal.
