Computers for Rwandan Women in Tech
Donation protected
My name is Randy Rice. I am a consultant and trainer in the field of software QA and testing, based in Oklahoma City, OK. In October of 2018, I traveled to Kigali, Rwanda to conduct software testing certification training for Muraho Technology. It was a life-changing experience for me and I hope you will also see the need that I saw - and help me meet that need.
Muraho Technology is working in Rwanda to create not just new jobs, but a new industry of software QA and testing. The goal is to train and employ 1,000 women full-time as software testers and QA analysts to serve companies in North America and Europe.
To be successful in their training and future work, these women need modern laptop computers. The women do not have the personal funds to buy their own computers. Many of the women struggle just to provide food for their family. Some of the women travel over 90 minutes each way, every day, to attend training. (The attendance levels are over 98% daily.)
Each new job provided is the opportunity for a changed life!
This training is an intense team-based curriculum that includes agile methods, ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) Foundation level software tester certification, and project management – all taught by international industry experts in their respective fields.
The goal is to train these women, and provide them with a clear path to gainful employment. Forty-eight Rwandan women have graduated the training program on October 26, 2018.
To complete the training exercises and to become proficient in software testing, laptop computers are required for each student. These women currently have very poor computers, with some having to borrow computers just to complete the training.
We are looking for people who share this vision of improving the lives of women in Rwanda. We aim to provide each woman with a new laptop computer funded by donations from individuals, corporations, churches and government agencies. For example, $300 USD will buy a new Dell Inspiron 15” laptop. The computers will be delivered to Muraho Techology to manage and control for security reasons. Each batch of computers will cost about $20,000 including tax and shipping
We need the first batch of 50 computers by January 1, 2019. We need the second batch by March 1, 2019. Ongoing, we plan subsequent deliveries as needed to be in place before training starts for each group of students.
Your donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated and will help change the life of a woman in Rwanda!
