Help Concord High students get to World Finals!

After placing first in the state, Concord High School’s Odyssey of the Mind team is headed to the World Finals Competition at Michigan State University from May 22nd to 25th!

What is Odyssey of the Mind?

It's an international creative problem-solving competition  that empowers kids to harness their out of the box thinking and turn it into a unique and entertaining performance.

Students use what they’re learning in school, plus their creative instincts to work as a team to solve a complex and open-ended problem, with no help from parents or friends. They learn how to work together, brainstorm and work through challenging engineering and storytelling problems.

This year our team chose to take on Problem 5: Opposites Distract. They created a humorous performance about a “sneaky character” who lures two groups into silly arguments to achieve their own ends… until they get caught! At the end, everybody learns a valuable lesson.

Our students had a $125 budget to build their solution - costumes, set, props and all - and they’ll have 8 minutes to present it at the World Finals.

This team has been hard at work since October, and after countless hours of brainstorming, building, problem-solving and creating collages out of candy wrappers, they placed 1st at the SF Bay Regional Competition. A few weeks later, they placed 1st at the NorCal State Tournament, qualifying them for the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in Michigan!

Why we need your help

Going to the World Finals is an incredible opportunity, and these students are so excited to represent their community at this international competition. But getting six kids, plus a 6x6 set and half a dozen costumes from the Bay Area to Michigan does not come cheap!

Flights, rooms, food and transportation come out to $6,000 for our students alone. We’ll be holding car washes and garage sales, but we hope to offset some of these costs with the help of our generous friends, family and community.

We are so proud of our students for their hard work, creativity and positive attitudes, and we hope they can go to the World Finals and represent our community!

Thank you for your help, and please help us spread the word!
