Hi, my name is Stephanie Bellefleur.. most of you may know me as your local neighbour/friend peer and artist. I never imagined myself here as over the years I have seen folks ask for support and help for the really important stuff, I suppose our perspectives may vary here when it comes to being an animal lover as this is always incredibly subjective. Romeo is my first and only dog, he was born June 3rd 2022.
He is a fun, loving stubborn French bulldog who really is a lover at heart. He will ditch me any day for a little bit of affection from another. From the moment I saw photos of him from his breeder Irene in Regina. Who is the most fabulous person and Frenchie connoisseur, my heart totally jumped when I saw his big blue/green eyes. He had this very cute mischievous look on his face. Ready and eager for fun, trouble and adventure. That's my Romeo, my greatest and best friend.
Despite my caring for Romeo and doing my very best to protect him from issues or accidents that can often leave us feeling deeply helpless and desperate. I am in a position that really there is no solution except to ask for help. I am not in any financial situation to remedy this emergency, my work as an artist is humble and I work from contract to contract on the margins and working remote here in Saskatchewan.
Since early last week I noticed Romeos eye had become increasingly red, unfortunately there was a wait since seeing a vet over the weekend is difficult and quit costly. As I was able to get Romeo in for the earliest appointment, the vet had explained that Romeo has an ulcer on his eye and that his eye is very fragile. Both vet and myself are still very unclear as to how or why this has happened to Romeo, it has been explained that because of the delicacy of the eyes of a French Bulldog, it cold be as simple as a blade of grass that scratched and injured his eye.
He was perscribed antibiotics as well as pain killers. Over the last five days Romeos left eye has become worse, he is now with additional medication that needs to be administered every two hours, is wearing a cone and is receiving treatment with only two outcomes. The eye will have to be removed, his eye may rupture or he can have Conjunctival Eye Surgery as soon as possible that will cost $4,000.00 (yes I know Four Thousand Dollars) My head in my hands crying and beside myself. Never have I ever spent this sort of money for a pet or anything really. Sigh.
An appointment for surgery has been confirmed for a consultation July8th at 8:30am and Surgery July 9th in Saskatoon at the University of Saskatchewan | Veterinary Medical Centre, with hopes to use whatever savings and any donations and or help/support.
Romeos eye is savable but he will need surgery as soon as possible, at this point I am really at a loss for words. I am happy to offer in exchange for support my artwork, services of mural work, anything worth of value in exchange for this help. Romeo is really more than just my dog, he is like a son to me. He is a family member for us, he has served as an angel through some of my toughest days. Anyone who is willing and can help especially, as I understand through difficult times in this economy. You would be helping save the vision and eyes of special little guy who makes life a whole lot more beautiful and brighter. Really there are no words, this is an emergency so the urgency here is as soon as I share this post. I appreciate all your help and support!
