A Heart for Connor
Donation protected
After multiple miscarriages, Kayla and Brandon were able to add to their growing family. To their disbelief, they were expecting twins! Instead of one rainbow baby, God blessed them with two.
Connor James Curtis was born on May 7th, 2021, via an emergency c-section along with his twin sister Callie Olivia. The day started as a routine check-up, but the family had the shock of their life when the doctors told them Connor had a heart defect. This was undetected at previous appointments.
Unable to deliver the babies safely, the hospital rushed mom and dad downtown where the twins were born. To their dismay, doctors discovered Connor’s heart condition was much more serious. He had severe Aortic Stenosis that was causing heart failure. While mom and Callie stayed at HFH getting care, Connor and dad were immediately taken to Children’s hospital for an emergency life-saving heart surgery. Only hours old, Connor would have the first of many procedures.
The surgery was not as successful as doctors had hoped and stated he would not make it through the night. Never being able to hold him, Kayla and Brandon prepared to do what no new parent wants to do-say goodbye.
Against all odds Connor was fighting minute by minute and he miraculously made it through the night. Now, Connor spends every day fighting hard for his life with the help of multiple machines, medications, and the 24-hour care of his doctors. He has a long road ahead. Unfortunately, the battle is not over, He is now in need of a heart transplant. With no other options, mom and dad are forced to watch their son grow from afar. He is unable to leave the hospital until he gets a new heart and will be in the hospital for a few more months even after the transplant.
In the event Connor receives a heart, he will endure countless medical appointments, daily medications, and treatments. The estimation is four or more doctors’ appointments per week for about a year and daily medications for the rest of his life. One medication already is estimated at $3,000 a month. Without it, Connor will reject the new heart.
With Kayla’s emergency c-section and complications, Callie’s extended stay in the NICU (due to her small size) and Connors never ending medical costs, money is tight. Gas to and from Detroit multiple days a week, and the financial ramifications of a successful heart transplant, Kayla and Brandon need our help. The challenges and obstacles their family will face are far from over and we are hoping to take some of the financial burden off of their shoulders. We are asking for help to support their family with medical costs and financial obligations due to the challenges this has created.
They are the most amazing parents to their 3 children Charlotte who is 2 years old and the twins who were born this year. This was unexpected and every parent’s worst nightmare.
We understand money is tight for everyone because of the pandemic, but any contribution is greatly appreciated.

In the event that Connor passes away before he can receive a heart, the monetary donations will go to help support the family and any funeral and leftover medical costs.
