Conquer Cancer & Keep Getting Jiggy with DJ Ziggy

Many of you know our close friend James “Ziggy” Washington. He has been in our friend circle for over 20 years. James is one of the kindest men we know. He is hardworking, working a full-time gig for UPS and part-time gigs as a DJ. James is also a father of three, his oldest son, Xavier (29) and a beautiful set of twins, Bella and Jeriah (13). James has a huge heart, a gorgeous smile, and gives the best hugs. James is always there when needed and now it’s our turn to be there for him.

Recently, James was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called Spindle Cell Neoplasm. Tumors have been found in his liver and stomach. James has been working with his doctors on a treatment plan but since this cancer is so rare, most treatments are considered experimental. He has undergone radiation to try to shrink the tumors in his liver and found out recently that the treatment was not as successful as they had hoped. His next step is to undergo experimental chemo which will not be fully covered through his insurance. James just received a bill for $7000 to cover his radiation and now needs another $2000 to start chemo. Upon receiving this news, he also learned that his part-time gig as a DJ for a local club was ending. This gig brought in an additional $1800 a month. As if all this was not enough, the transmission in his car went out. A generous friend has stepped up and is letting James borrow his car to get him back and forth to work and his treatments. While transportation is taken care of temporarily, funds are needed now.

As James’s friends, we got together and decided we needed to help in every way possible. Offering rides, help with the kids, and a place to stay if needed, but James needs more than that, he needs money to help cover his treatments and secure transportation. He’s fighting for his life and he should not be worried about anything other than getting healthy. Through this process, James has exuded a quiet strength for all of us. He did not want to burden us with his struggles and is a proud man. He has seen us through so hard many times and now we must step up for him.
