We would like to share the heartfelt story of Antigua, lovingly known as Dilcia – a loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend, who has graced our lives with warmth and strength. Dilcia's journey, marked by resilience and love, has taken an unexpected turn with a recent diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Dilcia's story is one of hard work and dedication, as she has been working since the tender age of 14. Even in the face of unimaginable loss, having lost her teenage son a few years ago, Dilcia found the strength to overcome grief and dedicated herself to providing for her family over-time. Her journey is a powerful story of triumph over adversity.

At 59, Dilcia made the decision to retire early, eager to embrace the joys of life alongside her husband and travel the world. The initial year of her retirement became the most cherished chapter, filled with laughter, love, and the fulfillment of lifelong dreams.

Life, however, took an unexpected turn when Dilcia started feeling symptoms while pursuing her passion for fitness at the gym. Numerous doctor visits led to an unnecessary surgery due to a misdiagnosis. On February 14, 2023, Dilcia received the devastating news of an ALS diagnosis. In less than a year, this relentless disease has stolen her complete mobility, leaving her only able to communicate and breathe with the help of a bipap machine.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Over time, ALS leads to the loss of muscle control, impacting mobility, speech, and eventually, the ability to breathe. Dilcia's battle against ALS is a daily struggle for basic functions, and her strength shines through in the face of such adversity.
