Support Conscious Homestead

Donation protected
We are a learning urban homestead that centers black & brown land-based healing & liberation, community care and the practice of living consciously with, not over, the land or one another. Our work manifests in our following core offerings:

Flying Fish Fellowship Program pays black and brown folks (ages 21+) within our community to learn about Afro-Indigenous land & food ways over the course of 4 months on the homestead with a phenomenal team of BIPOC mentors. Together we actively practice ancestral ways of being in relationship with the land and each other. We explore ancestral methods of growing, preparing & sharing food that we harvest from the land that we steward together on the homestead. We also learn about the local ecosystems through the study of plant identification, foraging, and herbalism. We grow ancestral medicinal herbs as well as nurture the local ecosystem's naturally growing botanicals on the homestead; then we co-create a variety of medicinals like tinctures, salves, syrups and infusions that we share with one another in the fellowship as well as the community. We also make space to celebrate and center the many ways that black and brown folks and the land have influenced and shaped art, music, fashion, pleasure, rest, revolution, liberation and joy. Our fellows are the heart of the homestead; each new cohort is connected with past cohorts throughout each new year of the fellowship experience which meaningfully grows and intentionally nurtures a community rooted in actively living in right relationship with the land and one another. It's this way of being in community that is cultivated in the fellowship that will serve as the seeds for Conscious Homestead's continued growth in the future.

Herbal Care Packages Program offers FREE seasonal care packages to black and brown folks across the country; we have distributed hundreds of packages since our program began in 2020. Each care package is a collaboration between the homestead Botanica team and other of local BIPOC artists and herbalists. Care packages include an assortment of medicinals and products made from homestead grown herbs & botanicals as well as products and art that are made by our fellow collaborators. Our care packages sell out each seasonal round in minutes and are a deeply beloved offering from the homestead each year.

Community Care Share Program offers FREE homestead grown seedlings, culinary herbs, vegetables, fruits, eggs, prepared foods and ferments to our homestead fellows, volunteers as well as black and brown folks in the community throughout the grow season. Since we began our community care share program in 2020 were have been able to distribute hundreds of free care shares throughout our community. We hope to collaborate with local black & brown farmers, homesteaders and herbalists to provide more free food offerings in our care shares in the future.

In addition to these three main programs, Conscious Homestead has hosted numerous offerings from community meals, to silent discos, from clothing swaps, to yoga, reiki and meditation classes, from BIPOC artist markets to movie nights, retreats and more. While we are committed to moving at a pace that honors our teams humanity and is in alignment with the rhythms of nature, we do hope to continue to grow our offerings and collaborations to provide experiences at the homestead that continues to nurture our individual and collective wholeness and sovereignty as black and brown peoples while cultivating a deeply intentional relationships to the land and one another. Currently, our space is located in Winooski Vermont (occupied Abenaki land) on Candace & Tony's urban homestead. Our goals are to expand beyond this space in Winooski, onto a larger piece of land in Vermont, that will become a communal homestead retreat. We look forward to sharing more about these plans with the community in the future.
