Archaeological Conservation: Italy

Donation protected
In August of 2013, a group of Canadian students doing archaeological field survey in Basilicata, Italy, found part of a suit of bronze armor (two greaves, or shin guards, and a bronze shield boss) on the surface near the town of Irsina. This was an unexpected find, but potentially an important one. We are seeking to raise money for the cleaning and conservation of these bronze artifacts, something which is beyond the reach of our limited conservation budget. This money will be used to pay professional archaeological conservators in Italy to do this work, which will prevent the artifacts, an important part of southern Italy's cultural heritage, from further deteriorating. Our hope is that these artifacts, once conserved, will find a home in a museum collection in Italy.
