Construction of adapted independent living space
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Cory; I am a 30-year-old with Cerebral Palsy currently living in Bristol. I am a wheelchair user, so I wish to use the fundraising donations to construct an adapted living space at my Auntie's home in Taunton.
We plan to knock down her garage to make room for the living space, after which we will construct the building from scratch with adaptations to accommodate my mobility needs.
I currently reside in a supported living environment where I have lived for the last nine years. There are many reasons I want to vacate my current living situation, the main two being the negative effect it's having on my mental health and wanting to be closer to family. I don't currently live close to any of my family, so if anything arises where I need their support, it is hard to accommodate this.
Moving into an adapted living space will mean being closer to family, a much-needed change of scenery, and will help my mental health to improve. It will be my own home where I can control who supports me and all of the elements within it, which is something that I wish I had in my current situation. I am very excited at the prospect of moving to my Auntie's, and I believe this will give me the freedom to explore independence.
Thank you for taking the time to read this; any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!
