Hello to all!
(Für Deutsch, bitte hinunterscrollen)

On behalf of the AKEK-OK team, I am excited to share our most recent fundraising campaign to support the construction of a new Junior High School at the Kibera Olympic Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

AKEK-OK stands for Access to Knowledge and Education in Kibera Olympic Centre in Kibera. The project is a private initiative. It is a collaboration between Austria-based volunteers, international sponsors and a private school in the slum of Kibera in the capital city of Kenya, Nairobi. Learn More

The project was launched 12 years ago by former ROXCEL employees to enable children in Kibera to attend school regularly by finding reliable sponsors to cover school fees at the KAG Olympic Educational Centre in Kibera.

We, the project team in Vienna, have it as our mission to raise funds to cover students' annual school fees, including a cooked meal a day, and to help finance the school's projects to improve the quality of education and the student experience. In the past, this has included projects such as the construction of a small school library or the installation of solar panels for sustainable energy supply.
For more details see: About the Kibera Project

Once again, we have a great opportunity to share our resources and support the school grow and serve a larger population of students!

Due to their high quality of teaching, K.A.G Olympic Educational Center has received approval from the government to introduce the new 2-6-3-3-3 educational system. Here, learners spend a total of 17 years at educational institutions - two at the pre-primary level, six at the primary level, three at the "junior" secondary level, three at the "senior" secondary level and another three at university.

The new curriculum is learner-centered and adapts to the changing needs of learners by fostering a spirit of innovation and creativity. In the classrooms, learners explore and find solutions related to real-life situations outside of school.

Not only does this system require specially trained teaching staff, but it also needs updated learning materials as well as infrastructure changes.

Help us reach our first fundraising goal of 8.000€ by the end of the year! (edit on March 2024: THIS GOAL HAS BEEN REACHED!)

The funds will exclusively be used for construction costs of the new Junior High School building, which will be built according to local government regulations. This means there is a need for additional classrooms, a laboratory, and improved accessibility such as ramps for wheelchairs.

Thank you for your support!
