CONSTRUCTION OF ZANZIBAR DANCE ACADEMY BUILDING

Hello everyone and welcome to Zanzibar Dance Academy!

We are Zanzibar Dance Academy , a group of dancers from the unique island of Zanzibar.

Two years ago, we started a project called ZANZIBAR DANCE ACADEMY to bring high-quality afro dance classes to Zanzibar local communities and foreigners who wanted to learn this style.

Unfortunately, we live on a Muslim island where it is very difficult to dedicate yourself to entertainment and where the art of dancing is not well seen. Last year we have been through various obstacles, ejected from our studio, and we were forced to stop our project.

But dance for us means much more than leisure or entertainment. It’s our life, our escape, a means of expression that makes us feel free. Where we live, dance is a spirit, a whiff of fresh air, it helps people to clear their minds and to get out of their hard daily lives. Dance is a support; dance is hope and inspiration for the youth. It is our way to communicate, our way to share, our way to love.

For these reasons, we did not let these obstacles stop us. For the past year, we have continued to promote Zanzibar's artistic culture and inspire youth through videos, events, performances and classes that we provide to travelers worldwide.

Zanzibar Dancing Academy continues to live, our passion is intact, and our motivation is strong, but an issue remains: THE PLACE.

For the moment, we provide our classes in the street, in people’s places or in some places that are lent to us, but this situation is unstable and prevents us from developing our project as we would like.

Today we see it: dance inspires, attracts, and federates. It is not only our passion that we share; it is also our identity, our history.

And that’s all we want to continue transmitting in optimal conditions.
