Hola, mi nombre es Ximena Borrazás, soy fotógrafa y videógrafa documental freelance.
El foco de mi trabajo es la cobertura de conflictos armados, crisis humanitarias, migratorias y vulneración de derechos humanos.
A inicios del 2023 comencé a indagar en profundidad sobre la guerra del Tigray y me alarmó descubrir que en un período de 2 años más de 600.000 personas habían sido asesinadas y al rededor de 120.000 mujeres y niñas violadas pero muy pocos medios estaban hablando de ello.
Junto a mi colega aplicamos al visado de turista y decidimos investigar qué estaba sucediendo en Tigray. Podría decir que ha sido una de las coberturas más duras al momento.
Allí fuimos testigos de torturas a mujeres y niñas, escuchamos el testimonio de víctimas violaciones en masa, de víctimas de hambruna masiva, amputados, malnutrición infantil, conocimos historias de personas que murieron por hambre, etc.
Pese a que existen pruebas de crímenes de guerra, durante la Asamblea general de las Naciones Unidas del 2023 se discutió la extensión del mandato del ICHREE, una agrupación que se había creado en su momento para la investigación de crímenes de guerra en Tigray.
Ante la negativa de los representantes etíopes y la falta de votos de otros países el mandato no fue renovado quedando impunes los crímenes cometidos.
El motivo de la creación de este crowdfunding es volver a Tigray para saber qué ha sido de las personas que he conocido 1 año después y entregar el dinero en mano a las personas que más lo necesiten.

Hello, my name is Ximena Borrazás, I am a freelance documentary photographer and videographer.
The focus of my work is the coverage of armed conflicts, humanitarian crises, migration and human rights violations.
At the beginning of 2023 I started to dig deeper into the Tigray war and was alarmed to discover that in a period of 2 years more than 600,000 people had been killed and around 120,000 women and girls raped but very few media outlets were talking about it.
Together with my colleague we applied for a tourist visa and decided to investigate what was happening in Tigray. I could say it was one of the most hard-hitting pieces of coverage at the time.
There we witnessed torture of women and girls, heard the testimony of victims of mass rape, victims of mass starvation, amputees, child malnutrition, heard stories of people who died of starvation, and so on.
Despite evidence of war crimes, during the UN General Assembly in 2023, the extension of the mandate of the ICHREE, a group that had been set up at the time to investigate war crimes in Tigray, was discussed.
Due to the refusal of the Ethiopian representatives and the lack of votes from other countries, the mandate was not renewed, leaving the crimes unpunished.
The reason behind the creation of this crowdfunding is to go back to Tigray to find out what has become of the people I have met 1 year later and hand over the money to the people who need it most.
