Continue the Miracle for Bonnie
Donation protected
In June of 2004, Bonnie Barresy suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm while she and her lifelong partner, Maureen LaBonte, were working out at Kathy’s Place fitness center in Winthrop, MA.
Maureen provided CPR while waiting for EMT’s to arrive, which helped Bonnie’s odds of surviving long enough to get to an emergency room. And survive she did, which doctors called “a miracle”. However, with that miracle has come many hurdles and hardships.
During the days, months and years that followed, Maureen has become a key member of Bonnie’s health care team. She is Bonnie’s voice.
Bonnie requires 24 hour care and assistance with all activities of daily living, which Maureen and her team of caregivers have been able to provide in a richly stimulating and individualized environment at home. For the last 12 years with the emotional and financial support of family and friends, Bonnie receives the personal care and attention that not only helps her survive, it helps her thrive to the best of her abilities.
Since turning 65 years old in 2015, Bonnie’s disability status changed to social security status. She no longer qualifies for the state aid that she received which helped pay for caregivers. In four (4) months when all monies are gone and home care is not an option, she will need to be placed in institutional care. From there it’s anticipated that her time with us will be measured in days rather than months and years due to the institutional form of care Bonnie would receive and her cognitive impairment.
Please make a donation of any amount today, help us ‘Continue the Miracle’ and care for Bonnie at home.
