Jayda's Legacy, a beacon of light taken too soon

As we navigate the unbearable loss of our beloved Jayda Aniyah Mitchell, we have found strength in our determination to create a legacy that reflects the vibrant spirit and boundless love that Jayda embodied.

In honor of Jayda's memory and her beautiful name, we are proud to introduce Aniyah Corp., a newly formed nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering adolescents who suffer from mental health issues. Jayda's compassion and empathy for others, especially those struggling with mental health challenges, have inspired us to channel our grief into creating a positive impact.

Aniyah Corp. will serve as a beacon of hope and support for adolescents battling mental health issues. Our core focus is two-fold: first, to provide a comprehensive range of resources, counseling, and assistance for these young individuals; and second, to extend a caring hand to their caregivers, parents, guardians, and additional family members who share in their journey.

We believe that mental health is a cornerstone of overall well-being, and by offering holistic support to adolescents, we can help them navigate the challenges they face and provide them with a brighter path forward.

A significant portion of the proceeds raised through this GoFundMe campaign will also contribute to building essential infrastructure for animal emotional support access. We recognize the profound impact that animals can have on emotional well-being, particularly for those affected by mental health issues. By establishing this infrastructure, we hope to extend the therapeutic benefits of animal companionship to those who need it most.

It is with immense sorrow and a heavy heart that I reach out to you today, seeking your support in a time of unspeakable pain and grief. My life has been shattered by an unfathomable tragedy - the loss of my beloved daughter, Jayda, in a senseless [impaired] accident caused by a suspected impaired driver heading in the wrong direction on the Capilano Bridge in East Edmonton early Sunday morning (June 25th, 2023); and I am devastated beyond words.

Jayda, at the tender age of 20, was a beacon of light in my life. Her vibrant spirit, her infectious laughter, and her compassionate heart touched the lives of all who knew her. She possessed a zest for life that was unparalleled, and her dreams and aspirations filled her days with boundless hope. Jayda was a remarkable young woman, radiating kindness and love wherever she went. She was everything and more that I could have wanted or dreamt of in a daughter and I was blessed for the 20 years I had her with me.

Now, I am finding myself in a heart-wrenching situation, grappling with the loss of my precious Jayda. I am faced with the daunting task of bringing her back home to Toronto, where she belongs and providing her with the farewell she deserves. The financial burden associated with bringing Jayda's body from Edmonton to Toronto, along with the additional funeral costs, has left me reeling, unable to navigate this alone.

I humbly implore your assistance in raising the funds necessary to bring Jayda home and ensure she receives a dignified final tribute. The funds will be used to cover the expenses to bring her home, funeral arrangements, burial costs, and any legal and administrative fees incurred. Any surplus funds raised will be donated to organizations committed to preventing drunk driving tragedies and advocating for stricter laws to protect innocent lives.
