Help Save Lives with Catastrophic Bleeding Control Training
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Mike Ichelson. I'm raising funds for a life saving educational program that I have developed over the last seven years, called Control The Bleed Canada.
Too Many Canadians Are Bleeding To Death
A 2007 Canadian trauma study concluded that 16% of trauma deaths could have been prevented with effective hemorrhage control techniques. That 16% translated to 2,400 Canadian bleeding to death. In 2018 there were 17,691 trauma deaths in Canada. Using the same 16% factor translates to 2,830 Canadians whose lives might have ben saved with bleeding control measures.
Time Is The Critical Factor
In mere minutes a person can bleed out and die. Emergency Services rarely arrives on the scene on time to apply advanced bleeding control therapies. First Aid courses primarily teach to apply direct pressure over the wound. Many courses touch on using a tourniquet but rarely provide enough information or skills development.
Adapting Military Bleeding Control Techniques
Control The Bleed Canada's program is "Recognized Educational Content" of The Committee For Tactical Emergency Casualty Care" (www.c-tec.org) listed as Emergmart Response Systems, Inc., Code Eight Division). The Canadian Department of National Defence has provided Control The Bleed Canada Training at a Canadian Forces Base. (I do not know exactly who has received the training. Hoping to get a testimonial from them).
Part One of the program is an online course. Part Two is an optional in-person lab session using a training arm that bleeds theatrical blood from various injuries. This practical session really drives home the importance of speed of action and develops effective skills.
The Original Business Case
I originally set Control The Bleed Canada up as a division of my first aid training company. Now that I am ready to bring this training Canada wide I have discovered that this is easier said than done. Over the last several weeks I, and my family have put a lot of effort into offering the online course for free without any obligations to purchase anything. Even giving it away for free is an enormous amount of work.
Control The Bleed Canada As A Not For Profit
The simple answer to spread this training throughout Canada is to spin off Control The Bleed Canada as a not for profit foundation. Doing so will open up potential grants and donations. We will also apply for a CRA registered charity.
The funds raised will be used for marketing and awareness and to fund the online program, and hopefully to provide certain segments, like houses of worship, with the equipment for in lab training.
Initial Needs
Legal and other associated fees to finance formation of a Canadian Charitable Foundation and CRA registration.
Purchase equipment needed and supplies.
Hire initial staff to bring the program to market.
Without doubt the amount needed will be more than the initial amount I am asking for. As we progress with setting the foundation up and obtaining professional advice we will have a better understanding of the long term funding needed.
Please Consider Donating To Our Cause
To be clear Control The Bleed Canada is not a registered charity at this point and therefore we cannot provide tax receipts for current donations.
The fact is that my family company simply does not have the financial resources to take this important work everywhere in Canada.
Free Online Control The Bleed Canada Course
I would be delighted to provide the online program for free.
