Cooper Hunt's Eagle Scout Project

I began my scouting career as a Cub Scout in 2nd grade with unit 167. I enjoyed all aspects of scouting and crossed over to the troop in 5th grade. I quickly rose in ranks thru the Troop. I am in 8th grade and am a Life Scout working on my Eagle rank.

In order to achieve my Eagle rank, I will need to complete an Eagle Service Project which I have developed and planned over the last few months.

My project is rebuilding and beautifying a pedestrian crossing bridge at my school Walnut Grove Christian, making it safe and pleasant to walk over.

This will include tearing the current standing bridge and clearing rocks from the area and lowering the ground level which will aid in better drainage flow in the area. I will be using pressure-treated lumber for posts and support that won't wither and longer lasting over the years. Composite decking will be used for the floor and handrails which will be safer to walk across allowing better traction.

To begin work on the project, I will need to raise about $2000 for the materials. I plan to start working on this project towards the end of this Spring - early Summer and hopefully have the finished product by the end of Summer. I will be reaching out to the Scouts in Troop 167 and Crew 167 to come to help with my project construction so that I can finish on time.

Some of the materials that I will need to acquire are 6x6 posts that are anchored into the ground with concrete. There will be 2x8x16 beams to support of whole bridge and decking. These beams will be held on top of sandwiched 2x4x5s. The decking will be composite lying across the beams. Also, the handrails will be a solid compost board. This bridge will be held together with galvanized lag bolts, Finnish screws, hidden fastener screws, and deck screws.

I will also need plants and mulch to finish the beautification of this project.
