SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Copa Tejas Supporters of Austin FC, Houston Dynamo FC and FC Dallas have started a fundraising campaign for a new trophy to be awarded at the end of the 2021 MLS regular season to the Texas team with the best head-to-head record among the three clubs, leaders announced.
The three teams will be competing for Copa Tejas during regular season matchups, starting May 8th when Houston Dynamo FC visits FC Dallas for the first-ever Division 1 game in the trophy’s series. In early August, Austin will host Houston for the first-ever meeting between those two clubs, and Austin FC’s first match against an in-state rival in MLS play.
The Supporters groups between the three teams – Austin Anthem, Los Verdes (Austin FC); Texian Army, Bandera Negra, and The Surge (Dynamo); Dallas Beer Guardians and El Matador (FC Dallas) – are each donating the initial funds to start the project, while a GoFundMe account (LINK HERE) has been launched to help raise additional money for trophy enhancements, a traveling case for transport between cities and repairs/maintenance.
