Help Indigenous Filipino Tribes
Donation protected
Since December 2016, The Cordillera Project Philippines has been bringing volunteers to the Cordillera mountain region of the Philippines and has launched an outreach program which aims to help the indigenous people of the region.
You may be asking: Why the Cordilleras?
Indigenous people make up about 15 percent of the population and occupy an estimated 17 percent of total land area. The Cordillera Region is home to the country's major natural resources. Because of this, indigenous tribes are often forced to abandon their ancestral land to make way for industry and are neglected by a government that sees tribal people as an obstacle to economic interests.
The indigenous Filipino are fighting every day against hunger and cultural degradation - they have no access to basic social services such as education and healthcare.
Our mission is TO HELP, in whatever capacity each community may need. So far, we have identified 3 integral missions that come together to make The Cordillera Project as a whole.
HEALTHCARE MISSION: Assisting doctors, nurses and social workers in conducting physical check-ups and providing free medicines and supplies to the people. Volunteer doctors and nurses also spread health education techniques to students and staff at the schools we visit. In the recent months, we have focused our efforts on elderly care and providing wheelchairs for people with disabilities.
EDUCATIONAL MISSION: The focus of the educational mission is to introduce the students to different subjects outside the regular curricula and integrate new skills into their current lesson plans. We provide assistance by donating school supplies, backpacks, and shoes/clothes to the students, school beautification and setting up libraries. Currently, we have been to over 50 schools of the Benguet, Kalinga and the Mt. Province.
LABOR MISSION: Volunteers are always busy; we help by farming, construction, renovation and are constantly engaging in an open dialogue with the city officials to best learn how to boost community enrichment utilizing the skill set of the volunteers we bring in. Every city and province has different needs and we realize it is not a 'one size fits all' approach.
Personally, as a volunteer, I visited these communities in 2018 and instantly fell in love with the people. No matter how little someone had, they always offer you a warm meal and treat you as their family. People always lend a hand to one another and there is a sense of community that I've not experienced anywhere else.
The Cordillera Project continues to grow and adapt to ensure that we are able to best serve the people. Thus far, financial support has come from personal donations made by our past volunteers and friends of the project all over the world.
I understand a financial donation isn't always feasible; please consider helping the cause by sharing on social media!
On behalf of The Cordillera Project, thank you for taking the time to read about us and we cannot express the immense gratitude we have for our friends and partners all around the world.
